Introduction

Hello,

I wanted to use this first post to introduce myself and my situation. My name is Nulty White, I graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, MA January 2008. I received a BSBA concentration Marketing with a minor in Music Industry. I was a proud member of the Northeastern Men's Heavy Weight Crew team for four years. After rowing I found it hard to leave the river and have since been coaching at Community Rowing Inc. I am also a musician, my instrument is my voice this has always been a passion of mine and for the last few years I have been writing and recording music with my friend Cory. Check out our music: www.mypace.com/nultyandcory .
Northeastern University is known mostly for their Coop program. This program is used for students to gain real job experience for 6 months and then bring it back to the classroom. This program and of course the rowing team are what made NU so attractive to me.
I had two Coop's while at Northeastern, my first was at a full service talent agency and event management company called Boston Event Works. This was a great experience in a small agency with an entrepreneurial environment. My second Coop was polar opposite from the first. I worked at EMC Corporation, EMC is a Fortune 500 technology company. At EMC I worked in the Advertising and Brand Strategy department. It was a great learning experience about corporate America.
I am a testament to the fact that the coop system at NU works. When getting ready to graduate last January, I contacted my manager at EMC to see if she would be able to help me network and look for my first professional opportunity. Long story short I came aboard with my old team at EMC as a Marketing Coordinator.  I have learned a lot about Global business-to-business marketing; metrics, sponsorship, online and print media. On top of that I have gained great networking skills, presentation skills, and more.
However unfortunately at the end of this November I was laid off from EMC because of this cost cutting economic environment we live in. The world becomes very real when you hear those words "We are going to have to lay you off." Everything else going on just kind of stops. All those headlines from the news start running through your head. You wonder what's next, what am I going to do, how am I going to do it and so on? You can't help but think was it me, what did I do wrong, etc.? I have come to find out that this is all very natural.
The reason for creating this blog is so other's out there in "Real World" do not feel alone. I want share with people what is working for me in my job search. What sites I have been using, what mistakes I have made along the way. Blogging is very new to me. So I ask that you bare with me as it is a learning experience for me as well as you.  I am very excited however to share my journey with you!

Till my next post take care.
